The Advantages of Having a Home Birth
Believe it or not, but most births (up until fairly recently) were nearly all done at home. Until the advent of the modern hospital system, most people simply had no other option other than to go through the birthing process in their family’s home. However, birthing conditions weren’t exactly ideal. Disease was easily transmitted, cleanliness was essentially non-existent (compared to modern hospitals), and conditions in general were simply not conducive to an optimal birthing.
Fast forward to modern times, and not only are home births making a comeback, but many mothers are actually choosing them over the standard hospital route of giving birth. Because of all the great advancements in medicine and technology, giving birth at home isn’t nearly what it used to be (especially if you use an experienced and qualified midwife for home births).
Below we cover some of the benefits of home births, as well as some other facts to keep in mind when considering whether or not you want to give birth at home.
