The USDA Dietary Guidelines for Preventing Food Allergies in Babies

To millions of Americans, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is considered a trusted source on health related issues. The USDA guidelines are adjusted every 5 years to keep up with trends and scientific findings concerning diet as well as nutrition. Keeping with this pattern, the newest guidelines were released in 2020.

In a historic move, the most recent guidelines give recommendations that include 0 to 2 year olds for the first time ever. One point that stands out from these findings is that parents have the ability to help prevent babies from developing food allergies.

"Introducing peanut and egg in an age appropriate form, in the first year of life (after age 4 months) may reduce the risk of food allergy to these foods." - USDA
